Emergency Preparedness: Tips for Storing Water

I am starting to store more water due to recent power outages that render our well useless.

Here are some tips:

  • Make two types of stored water
    • Potable- For drinking and cooking
    • Non-potable- For washing and flushing toilets
  • Store much more than you think you will need
  • Use reliable containers- 5 gallon buckets last and stack nicely too
  • Add a little unscented bleach to kill bacteria
  • Think about rotating the stock on the drinking water

These are just a few tips to get you started.

Now to get a generator in place so the well will keep working . . .
