As an individual interested in becoming more frugal and self reliant, I always look for ways to "offset" costs and dependence.

I offset:

• Home heating with woodheat
• Grocery bills with a garden and fishing
• Transportation costs with planned trips and choice of vehicle

Soon I hope to offset:

• Home entertainment with free broadcasts and low cost programming
• Electric power with solar energy (Not for green reasons . . . unless you are thinking cash)
