If You Want it Done Right, DIY!

If you want it done right . . . do-it-yourself. There have been many times when I have trusted the so-called "professionals" to do things for me and I have been disappointed. I have had CPAs make grave errors that I thankfully caught. One auto mechanic left a wrench in my engine compartment that I discovered weeks later. An oil change place left my oil cap off and oil splattered all over the engine compartment.

I now do many things for myself . . . not only a frugal approach, but more importantly, I know it is getting done right. What do I DIY?

  • Basic plumbing and electrical
  • Painting and carpentry
  • Auto maintenance and repair
  • Taxes and bill paying
  • Cooking fine meals

There are some things that I outsource, but they are usually jobs that are too complex, specialized, or dangerous.

That said, I always try to acquaint myself with the job and make sure the professional knows, I know what to expect . . .
