Doing the Unpleasant . . .

Isn't so bad. The kids are gone this weekend, so I got quite a bit done including an "unpleasant" task I have been putting off.
After I rounded up the balance of the trash, I completed the bi-weekly task of going to the dump, watered and fertilized the container vegetables, washed the car in the rain (The Lazy Man's Car Wash), did some banking and ran some errands with my wife, and finally tackled Phase I of garage cleanup and organization-- an unpleasant task . . . or so I thought.
What I rediscovered was that the real trick to tackling tasks we put off is to start. As I progressed, the task started to move pretty quick. The best part was the intense personal satisfaction of completing the job.
What was Phase I? Cleaning out and reorganizing my tools and toolboxes-- many of the tools were out on a table. I have four tool boxes and my wife's "crappy", little toolbox from her college days (An aside: In our private joke about this toolbox we use a different word instead of "crappy").
For those interested, my toolboxes are organized as follows:
- Tools-- screw drivers, wrenches, pliers, etc.
- Carpentry oriented
- Fasteners oriented-- nails, screws, glues, tapes, etc.
- Automotive oriented
It took about two hours, but the reorganization will save me many more hours in the years to come-- I last did this toolbox reorganization about five years ago-- it was time.
I was so pleased with my start, I did a few more garage clean up tasks . . .
To reiterate the moral of the story-- Start! It's not that bad and will be done faster than you think!
