DIY Fishing Gear: How to Make an Anchor Line Depth Gauge

Recently, I added an anchor to my inflatable raft. I used to just drift around, but I want the flexibility of sitting on productive fishing holes. I also decided it would be nice if I could use it to calculate depths. I put my thinking cap on for a simple solution– here is what I came up with . . .
I decided to put depth “markers” on the anchor line. Since this anchor and line will be used in water that will make the line “dirty,” I needed a bright marker. I chose Hot Pink Mason’s Line.
Next, I measured approximately 10 feet up the line from the anchor and tied one marker to the line. I then measured another 10 feet up and tied two markers. I repeated this at 30 and 40 feet with three and four markers respectively . . .
Now when I put the anchor down, I simply look at what marker I am at and I have an idea of the depth. I can now do suspended baits with some idea of where the bait sits in the water column.
As simple a solution as I could make it. Good luck . . .
