Wilderness Survival Skills: Yo-Yo Fishing For Survival

Yo-yo fishing is fishing with an automatic snare fishing device. It is another passive, "set it and forget it" fishing technique.

Some fisherman engage in yo-yo fishing for sport and fun where it is legal, it is actually another viable and valuable survival technique.

Here is what you need:

Here is what to do:

  • Place or tie the yo-yo's in spots that have active fish traffic
  • Leave in place if bait
  • Check them every few hours

Much like trot lining, yo-yo's help "stack the proverbial deck" and allow you to do other more critical survival activities-- much like snaring for small game in a survival situation.

The time to learn survival fishing methods is before you need to use them.

Bear in mind some of these techniques are probably illegal in your state-- EXCEPT in true survival situations. It is best to check your local regulations.
