Woodheat Tips: How to Make Newspaper Fire Starting Rolls

Another woodheat tip-- how to make your own newspaper fire starting rolls.
Woodheat is big in my house, but spending money on it is not. One way to save is to produce the materials ourselves. I make fire starter rolls out of tightly wound newspaper, here is how to do it:

  • Start with a stack of old newspapers
  • Take about 2-3 sections or about 1/2-3/4 inch thick of paper
  • Roll tightly should be about three inches in diameter when done
  • Tie with twine on the ends
  • Store in a dry place until ready to use

I usually make these on summer days in the backyard. I try to make 120 of them-- a season's worth.

Love the newspaper idea. Great way to re-use resources instead of wasting them by throwing them away. Thanks for the tip!

I hate throwing away things-- repurpose and reuse! Composting is a another great way to maximize returns taking trash and turning it into fuel for my veggie garden.
