The world will come to an end someday, but probably not in 2012. I am fond of saying that things are possible, but not probable.

That said, the realists among us we quickly see that emergency preparedness isn't for the end of the world-- it is for:

• Job/Income loss or disruption
• Energy or resource disruption
• Illness
• Financial problems
• Economic issues
• Acts of God
• Natural Disasters
• Civil unrest
• Unknown events
• War

What are some ways to prepare for disaster?

• Live more frugally
• Get out of debt
• Save money
• Store food and water reserves
• Have alternate income sources
• Be ready to operate without electricity for a while
• Keep extra fuel, but be ready to run out
• Know how to do things DIY projects can help

Be prepared-- better to be prepared for trouble and have none, than to have trouble and not be prepared to deal with it.

Being more self reliant isn't just a noble pursuit, it could save you from ruin . . .
