Once Again, Eating at Home is Better . . .

Recently, I barbecued an entire meal on the grill and my wife commented that eating at home is better . . .
than going out to eat. Many times we have been disappointed when we have chosen to part with our hard earned dollars for a meal out.

While I cooked in college and at times during my first marriage, it was when I was single again due to divorce, that I really learned to excel at cooking . . . Why?

  • I wanted to impress my kids
  • It was the frugal way to deal with a newly limited budget
  • Dates were impressed that I did it, but even more so that the meal was really good
  • I wanted to feel good that I could learn and excel at something new (I sense self reliance yearnings here)

Nowadays, I am an advanced cook (better than my ex-wife ever was in the kitchen)-- providing restaurant quality meals as well as simple, homemade family fare.

So what did I make that had my wife singing praises?

  • Marinaded London broil on the grill
  • BBQ shrimp
  • Tomatoes and fresh basil from my garden salad
  • Corn on the cob
  • Grilled portobello mushroom caps

I will post the new marinade in a separate post-- I made a change that had a big impact on the flavor.
