Wilderness Survival Skills: An Introduction to Survival Fishing Methods

The time to learn survival fishing methods is before you need to use them. Today, I am going to introduce you to the concept of survival fishing, but don't think this one post is all encompassing on the topic.
In a survival situation there are certain skills that can help you, and fishing is an important one. Here are some techniques you should be familiar with:
- Hand lining-- Fishing by hand with a line and traditional tackle or improvised tackle.
- Spearing-- Using a trident spear or arrow or knife on a limb or a forked limb to impale your prey
- Clubbing-- As the name implies, using a limb, shovel, or handle to beat your prey
- Netting-- Traditional or fashioned from available supplies
- Hand capture-- Scooping, grabbing, or pitching fish with your mitts
- Trapping-- Creating containment areas that fish go into, but fail to get out of
- Trot lining and yo-yoing-- Setting lines and forgetting them until later
Bear in mind some of these techniques are probably illegal in your state-- EXCEPT in true survival situations.
Over the weekend, I will do some individual posts that expand on some of these topics.
