Low Profile Living: Don't Advertise What You Have-- Hide It!

Continuing to think about low profile living, let's get something straight-- don't advertise what you have. If you want to keep anything, keep it a secret. I just had this conversation with a colleague and he asked the obvious question-- How do you do that?

Let's start with acquisition. In today's day and age, buying something in a store and a credit card usually creates both a video and transactional record. The way around this is to pay cash, buy away from home, and buy it in a private party transaction like a garage sale.

Next, let's consider storage. This should be a no-brainer-- keep it well hidden and don't tell anyone that you have it. Can you keep it offsite? You may be proud of it, but pride can be your undoing. Knowledge or worse, envy, by a neighbor can lead to exposure or loss.

Finally, let's think about use. If you can use it in private-- do so. Consider using it only if absolutely necessary, under cover of darkness, or at odd times. Using it away from home is also a very good idea.

What might this approach apply to?

  • Food, water, or medical supplies
  • Cash or valuables
  • Collectibles
  • High-end equipment
  • Guns or other weapons
  • Tools and equipment
  • Electrical generators
  • Recreational vehicles

Low profile living has many benefits and can preserve your precious privacy, but it is up to you make that happen . . .
