Personal Safety and Self Defense Skills: How to Kick a Door In

Knowing how to kick a door in is a good personal safety and self defense skill. Why? You may be trapped by a(n):
- Failed doorknob
- Fire
- Aggressor
First, let's consider a door that opens away from you:
- Aim for the lock bolt (Door knob) or hinges
- Step forward
- Lift your foot
- Extend leg
- Contact the door with the flat of your foot
- Bust through the door (It may take a couple of blows)
Next, if you are on the hinged side of the door (Door open toward you):
- Find something (like a screwdriver, knife, coin, pen, comb, etc.)
- Pop the pins out of the hinges
- Pull the door toward you
Finally, use leverage:
- Find something (like a screwdriver, knife, coin, pen, comb, nail file, etc.)
- Use the object like a crowbar
- Jimmy the door bolt
One more thought, if you can't generate the force in your kick-- try to find a large solid object and try ramming (again near the lock bolt or hinges)
