Personal Safety and Self Defense Skills: How to Avoid Detection

If you are a hunter, you are probably familiar with what I am about to discuss.
If you are running from trouble (stalkers, aggressors, or other trouble) there are some sure ways to avoid detection:

  • Find a blind
  • Blend in
  • Don't move

A blind is a physical object or a group of objects that serve to block you from sight. This could include:

  • Tree or trees
  • Leaves
  • Rock or group of rocks
  • Cars
  • Doorway

Look around-- I am sure you can find something.

Blending in may be trickier. Here are some ways to do it:

  • Muddled colors in the woods
  • White in the snow
  • Black or navy at night
  • Environmental objects
  • Leaves
  • Branches
  • Trash

Not moving is a big one. Movement can trigger predators senses:

  • Sight
  • Sound
  • Smell

Most predators rely on their sight to zone in on finding their prey.

So the next time you go hunting or are pursued by an aggressor-- keep these ideas in mind.

Let me add one note-- in this day and age, being pursued by an aggressor isn't as far-fetched as it sounds. There are stories almost weekly of some nut job attacking their "ex" or going "postal" at work, school, or at a fast food restaurant. Don't dismiss this off handedly.
