First Aid Tips: Improvising With Duct Tape

Another first aid tip-- Improvising with duct tape.
Here at the Self Reliance Workshop, we don't do anything the "normal" way. Instead, we value creativity, ingenuity, and improvisation.

Rather than discuss the traditional approaches to first aid, let's assume your first aid kits (You should always have backups in case the primary kit, is lost or damaged or got washed away when the boat capsized). You have an injured member of your party and a roll of duct tape . . . here are a few ideas I came up with thinking about this topic of using duct tape for first aid-- I could use it to:

  • Close a wound
  • Protect a wound
  • Make a sling
  • Create a splint
  • Form a brace
  • Prevent blisters
  • Fashion a tourniquet

Granted, actual first aid supplies are best, but in an emergency you need to make due with what you have. Duct tape can be the answer.

What other ideas can you come up with?
