How to Read a Book

Want to learn something from a book? Here in the Self Reliance Workshop, we are avid readers and learners. We look to quickly pull critical information we can use. Here is an approach on how to read a book to aid your comprehension:
- Scan the Table of Contents-- Know what you are getting into.
- Read the Introduction-- What is the tone of the book?
- Scan the chapter you are about to read-- Get ready to start the learning process.
- Read the chapter-- Start absorbing the eat of the matter.
- Highlight the key points of the chapter and take/make notes in the margins (This assumes the book is yours)-- Makes You subsequent passes easier.
- Reread the highlights and notes-- What did you miss and what do you really need to know?
Follow these steps and you should have a solid grasp of the material. Studies have shown it takes seven exposures to material to know it-- you cover about five in this process.
Good luck!
