Emergency Preparedness: Things to Buy Backups of . . .

There are things to buy backups of for both convenience and emergency preparedness. In keeping with my self reliance mindset, I try to stay well stocked on certain items. I do this to:
- Avoid the inconvenience of not having something.
- Assure I have something in the event of emergency.
- Save time and money (Bulk buying and sale buying beat spur-of-the-moment full price).
What do I try to stock? Here is the short list:
- Toilet paper
- Paper towels (Dramatically decreased since I bought a stack of dish towels a few years ago)
- Batteries
- Soaps, shampoos, and detergents
- Non-perishable food items
- Alcohol
- Gas, diesel, and other fuels
- Charcoal
- Woodstove supplies
- Auto supplies
I use a mental checklist and then follow up with a walk around, visual inventory. This approach is usually highly effective, but this weekend I encountered a shortfall and had a stock out. The clock in the bathroom stopped and I am out of AA batteries . . . Ugh.
While I am glad this incident was an inconvenience and not an emergency, it served as a reminder to redouble my efforts and check the supply of batteries more frequently to avoid a repeat of this situation in the future.
How do you manage to stay well stocked?
